Newspapers: Daily Mirror - Audience and Industries

Blog tasks: Daily Mirror - Audience and Industries

Audience

1) What is the Daily Mirror's audience? List the key statistics here.

65+ ages = 44.5% readership
Targeting ABC1C2 readers.

2) Why do the Mirror stories on the CSP pages appeal to the Daily Mirror audience?

They appeal to the Daily Mirror audience because they have big lettered Splash heads to catch the readers eye with the latest either gossip or 'hard news'.

3) Why might a reader enjoy the Daily Mirror? Use Blumler & Katz Uses and Gratifications theory to add detail to your answer.

One of the main reasons they could be reading them is because they want to keep up with the latest gossip and news.
They also could be entertained by the content within the newspaper such as the stories of others or the cartoons that are included in them or maybe even the crosswords.

4) Why are print newspapers generally read by older audiences?

They are read by an older audience because that is what they grew up with when they were a child so it might be hard for them to make the switch to a digital platform because when they read the actual copy of the newspaper they could get a sense of nostalgia.
Another reason is that a younger audience don't really trust the news as a valid source of information yet rather go onto social media or articles that they are able to find online whereas the older audiences may not have access to these.

5) How is the inside-page story on our CSP pages constructed to appeal to Daily Mirror readers? Think about text and selection of images.
